The Baca County Resource Center was filled with laughter as the Baca County Conservation District (BCCD) members celebrated the District’s 70th Anniversary. Ninety people attended BCCD’s Annual Meeting April 4th. The business meeting portion of the program was run by BCCD Vice President Miles Swanson, and Secretary Pat Esch. District Manager Misty George presented a review of what BCCD accomplished in 2007 on behalf of local ag producers. Throughout the evening comedian/magician Mr. E mingled amongst the crowd tickling everyone’s funny bone and amazing them with slight of hand. Colorado’s Commissioner of Agriculture John Stulp was the featured guest speaker. His presentation detailed the Department of Agriculture’s mission and departments that carry out those functions. Commissioner Stulp stated that Colorado’s agriculture industry contributes nearly $16 billion to the state’s economy annually from farm inputs, farm receipts, and processing. Everyone enjoyed the fabulous barbeque meal prepared by Kim’s Ribs. The evening concluded with a full magic act by Mr. E. The audience simultaneously roared with laughter and gasped in amazement. Thank you to our event sponsors: Orebaugh Insurance, Farmers Union Service Association and Rocky Mountain Farmers Union. Thank you to our extremely generous area businesses who donated door prizes: Baca County Emergency Management, Cowpoke Feeds, Everitt-Moore, NAPA Auto Parts, Temple Grain, and Aspen Leaf. ~ Misty George, BCCD District Manager |
