BCCD provided an opportunity to discover “everything you need to know about planting windbreaks” at our Conservation Tree Planting Workshop on February 4, 2009.  It was a comprehensive training on techniques that improve windbreak function, seedling survival, and long-term windbreak health.

Local expert Tom Werner from the Springfield NRCS Office explains how this drip roller works.  Tom also detailed the necessity of drip irrigation for shelterbelts, including basic drip components and design.

Deborah Lester from Baca County CSU Extension provided details on Extension’s seedling program and gave out some fun prizes.

Shelly Van Landingham, from Colorado State Forest Service, taught the proper handling and planting of seedlings, as well as how to select the right trees for our region.  Greg Sundstrom, also from Colorado State Forest Service, detailed basic windbreak design, site preparation, and windbreak maintenance.
